St Jean Port Joli 97 klm

Wow did it rain in the night. I was up at my usual time but had a slow breakfast and then walked around town and up to the fort. Texted and chatted before packing up.

I took an empty ferry across to the south side and started riding about 11.
Quebec from the ferry

I had a great bike highway for the first 15 klm heading east along the shore. After that is was a secondary highway with
a good paved shoulder and little traffic. It was very windy but it was at my back! Many times I was cruising  along at 35+ kph hardly working at all. At times it clouded over and rained a bit then the sun would come out and it would be almost hot. But always windy. I stopped at a nice place for lunch and had venison sausage which was good.  I chatted with some cyclists who were riding the other way and complaining about the wind. When I said I was headed for Halifax they said "what, another one?".  I was the 3rd they had met.
I stopped at a bike shop in one of the villages  to have them check out my bike. I was having trouble shifting the front gears without the chain coming off. I ended up having the chain and rear cassette replaced. I knew it was overdue. Shifting is much better but I have some fine tuning to do in the morning .  At about 5:30 I stopped at a campground in St Jean St Joli. Nothing special but it has very nice showers etc and is a short walk to restaurants and stores. It even has wifi. Nicer weather is in store for tomorrow.

We'll be showing your blog to your parents later this morning when they are here after getting their haircuts. They've been having trouble reading your blog at home for some reason.

  3. I can't believe I've missed so many days of your trip - gosh you are experiencing so much great Canadian history and geography - awesome! Sorry to hear the rain chased you along but I am impressed that you chose the Victorian BnB to spend the night instead of camping. Love your blog and photo's and green with envy.
