As I sat down to breakfast in a beatiful dining room with a wonderful spread of good things to eat I heard Chariots of Fire, by Vangelas, in the background. I love that music but for some reason it brought some loneliness I was feeling to the surface. Not a great start to a day of solitary riding. Fortunately one of my mind reading friends called me at that moment and I was back to the present and appreciating how good it is.
I continued east and started to meet cyclists frequently for the first time. I was given some good route advice from the fellow who took this picture.
This is the bridge over the St. Maurice river in Trois Riviers. The entire region is called La Mauricienne. If I have it right it's all named after Quebecs most adulated hockey hero, Maurice Richard, who was sainted due to his many documented miracles sur la glace chez la forum du Montréal.
Aparently this is north Americas largest shrine to Mary. And it is big. Moving choir singing was coming from a nearby building. A nice moment.
Looking back ay the bridge over the St Lawrence at Trois Riviers.
Just did not get tired of riding along this shore.
Lunch stop at a CasseCroute.
Well, who could resist.
There was a lot of overnight rain and some local flooding in this flat area. This is a former railroad bride with only the rails left. Saw some houses flooded half way up the first floor.
I stopped for coffee at about 3:30 and firmed up a plan I had been thinking about. Rather than stop 50 klm from Quebec why not push on? I was feeling good, I checked the distance, discussed the route with some other cyclists, found a place on booking.com, booked it and headed out for another 60 klm. The ride was good and fast and avoided busy roads.
Entrance to inside the walls of Quebec City after 173 klm.
My hotel is very European. 4 floor walk up with a room under the roof. Shared bath. Actually kind of nice.
Samuel de Champlain.
Looking down to the lower town.
My street.
Chateau Frontenac. Having a great time walking around, texting and calling people to share the moment. It is very good to be me today.
Where do you store your bike Allie ? Irene
ReplyDeleteIn this case it is in the room. Fortunately they have a first floor room being renovated and it is stored there. Otherwise it would have been 4 steep floors up and down.
