I left Oromocto at 8:30 and remembered to take some pics of my nephew to attach to yesterday's blog. There were a few potential routes to St John and I chose the shortest. It meant backtracking 5 klm which was a difficult choice. Funny it should matter if it ultimately saved 20 klm. It had rained in the night and the morning was cool with a light mist falling.
After a few klm of roads the route I was following included a 20 klm stretch of trail.
Not as good a trail as yesterdays. I was glad to get back on roads after this.
I thought to stop and check my bike rack and sure enough the mounting screws were half way loosened. At about 11:00, 45 klm along, I stopped at the first restaurant I had seen all morning. I walked in out of the chill and smelt bacon and coffee and sat down and ordered a full breakfast. After that there were a few serious hills but not nearly as tiring as the previous 2 days. I fought a headwind but better today than yesterday.
Back at the St John river and the rain picked up for the last hour in to St John. I decided I would go straight to the ferry terminal and catch the evening boat to Digby since it was not weather that was going to allow me to enjoy St John. Is anyone really surprised? I should have stopped to warm up and have a snack first because there is nothing at the terminal.
So after 10 more minutes in the rain I am at the closest restaurant; you guessed, Tim Hortons. I'm fed, warmed up, phone charging, sitting by the fire. I'll head down to the ferry in a while. I have a place booked near the terminal in Digby.
Rain will be clearing up for Wednesday and I believe Thursday.
ReplyDeleteSuspect that you should be here by Thursday??

Might take 3 days to follow around the coast. Feeling g a bit pooped tonight.
ReplyDeleteProbably take 3 days, you've still got about 340 km to go and that's using the highway, not the trails, don't know if it's more with the trails or not. Friday is a rain day too...when you get here, you get here.
ReplyDeleteTake care and enjoy the ride.
