I got on the road at 9 again heading for a campground near Louisville but a bit concerned about the weather. The light rain predicted for the morning was not the issue but heavier rain and possibly thunderstorms were predicted for late afternoon and evening.
The Route Verte 5 passed right by my hotel. It seemed that the area was crisscrossed with this kind of separated bike lanes and those that did not have them had single direction marked bike lanes. The route out of Montréal to the east along the north shore was easy to follow and pleasant to ride.
Freighter on the St. Lawrence.
Misty morning on the riverside.
At the outskirts of Repentingy, just outside Montréal, I had the option of following Rt 138, a secondary road east or following Route Verte which took a 15 klm longer route to north around the area then joining Rt 138. I took the Route Verte option and regretted it. It was not a particularly interesting trail. Essentially suburban roads with bike lanes and bike trails but nothing of the town itself. It added 2 hours to my day since I wasted a lot of time loosing the route. It is actually a route along many existing trails and roads and the signage at trail intersections is sketchy. I skipped some the Route Verte diversions later on but I can see that the goal is to avoid long boring stretches of highway or heavy traffic commercial sections.
After I picked up Rt 138 again I followed the shore through farms and small villages with big churches. The sun came and went and it was quite warm and humid.
I liked this house. Typical quebecois style with the curved roof line.
The land is very flat.
Local strawberries for my afternoons snack.
The campground I had chosen was 5 klm off my route. I could live with that but there was no store or restaurant so I would have eat in Louisville (it was not yet 5) or pack food with me. Not ideal but ok. But the predicted weather was threatening and I really felt down at the prospect of hours in my tent waiting for night. About 200 m before my turn off I noticed this b&b and that's where I am. Sitting in a well furnished solarium kind of room looking out at the falling rain.
Once again glad you chose the b&b. You're on an adventure not an ordeal. Yes, local berries can't wait to get them here.
